At the Park | Jacksonville Family Photographer

Florida weather is so mercurial: We jump from temperatures in the mid 80s just yesterday to the 50s today. Of course, when I think of the layers of snow our Northern friends are buried under right now, I have to admit we’re pretty lucky here in Jacksonville. Despite our recent weather whims, spring is here and the temps should start to become steady and warm, perfect for portraits. I’ve been enjoying seeing all the new growth on trees–including the apple trees in my own back yard–azaleas blooming, and crepe myrtles bringing color back to our world.

March and April are great months if you’re looking for portraits with flowers in the background. There are many great parks in Jacksonville, Saint Augustine, and Saint Johns that offer great variety, and before we know it, we’ll be in beach season again, too: the other luxury of coastal living.

I’m still catching up on my blog (more to come soon), and while this next family session is not one that focuses on spring, it does focus on the beauty of parks. There’s something so timeless and relevant about park portraits that represent today’s families: classic, casual, fun, and the simplicity of family life in the beauty of natural surroundings.

I loved how much energy this little boy had for our session. Typical of his age, he was often up and flying, but when we did catch him for a few seconds to take these pictures, his smile was so bright and engaging.

Ah, the wonder of leaves and berries for the young mind…

I always appreciate pictures that show the joy of childhood, but there’s also something irresistible about those serious expressions showing their thoughtful sides.

The pictures of children and parents just being their silly selves are often my favorites…

Look how tiny he is walking between his parents as they guide him along.
